Virden is a tiny farming town of 175 people in New Mexico's far southwest corner, 15 miles from Arizona. Highway 70 runs right through town, connecting to I-10 near Lordsburg about 30 miles south. Most visitors come from Tucson (100 miles via I-10 and Highway 70) or Las Cruces (120 miles). The post office still uses its original wooden mail sorting boxes from the early 1900s.
