Vernon is a tiny farming town in Utah's Rush Valley, about 25 miles south of Grantsville via State Route 36. The drive crosses high desert rangeland between mountain ranges, offering big sky views typical of rural Utah. Most visitors come from Salt Lake City (take I-80 west to the SR-36 exit) or from Tooele to the north. At 4,400 feet elevation, Vernon experiences cold winters and hot, dry summers. The town still follows its original 1860s Mormon pioneer grid layout.
