Vermont is a small farming town in western Illinois, sitting where Routes 9 and 100 meet along the Spoon River. Most visitors drive Route 9 from Peoria (45 miles east) or come up from Springfield via Routes 97 and 9. The town of 698 people sits in typical Illinois prairie country about 25 miles southeast of Macomb. Settlers from the Green Mountain State named it after their Vermont homeland.
