Verdigris is a small city in Rogers County, about 20 miles northeast of Tulsa via US Highway 169. Most visitors arrive from I-44 through Claremore or drive directly from the Tulsa metro area. The city sits along the Verdigris River in Oklahoma's Green Country, with Tulsa International Airport about 25 miles southwest. The town gets its distinctive name from French explorers who called the local river "Rivière au Verd de Gris" for its greenish, copper-colored waters.
