Velva is a small farming town in north-central North Dakota, 50 miles north of Minot via US Highway 52. The main route brings visitors through wheat country and rolling prairie, with US 52 continuing north toward Canada. Local roads connect surrounding farms in McHenry County. The town centers around grain elevators and features a restored 1914 Great Northern Railway depot that now serves as the historical society headquarters.
