Veblen is a small farming town in northeastern South Dakota along US Highway 12, about 45 miles east of Aberdeen. The community of 455 sits on the Coteau des Prairies highlands amid corn and soybean country. Highway 15 intersects here, connecting north to Sisseton. Most traffic consists of agricultural hauling and regional commuters, though Highway 12 serves as a useful east-west route across the northern plains. The town was named after economist Thorstein Veblen, who grew up on a nearby farm.
