Varnville is a small Hampton County town of about 2,500 people positioned along US Highway 278 between Charleston and Savannah. Most visitors arrive via US 278 from Interstate 95 near Ridgeland, about 25 miles west. The town developed around the railroad in the late 1800s and maintains its historic character with the restored 1913 train depot serving as a community center.
