Vardaman is a small farming town in north-central Mississippi, about 25 miles southeast of Oxford and 90 miles from Memphis. Highway 9 provides the main north-south route through town, connecting to Highway 8 for regional travel. The area's rolling hills support cotton and timber farming in Mississippi's humid subtropical climate. Vardaman calls itself the "Sweet Potato Capital of the World" and hosts an annual festival celebrating this signature crop each November.
