Vanceboro is a small Craven County town along the Neuse River, 15 miles southwest of New Bern. US-17 runs right through town, connecting north to Washington and south to Jacksonville. Most long-distance travelers use US-17 to reach I-95 near Rocky Mount or take US-70 east to the coast. The 1858 railroad depot still stands downtown, marking the town's railway heritage.
