Van Meter is a small Iowa town of about 1,600 people, located 20 miles west of Des Moines via Highway 169. The main route from Des Moines takes Highway 5 west to Highway 169 north, while I-80 travelers can reach it by taking Highway 169 north for about 10 miles. The town sits in rolling farmland and is home to Dallas County Hospital on Main Street.
