Valmeyer is a small Illinois town about 30 miles south of St. Louis that completely relocated to higher ground after 1990s flooding. Take I-255 to Exit 6, then Route 156 west for 8 miles through Monroe County farmland. The town sits on Mississippi River bluffs with valley views. Most notable is the flood museum in the original town site below, documenting one of America's few complete community relocations.
