Valley Park is a small St. Louis County city of about 7,000 people, located 20 miles southwest of downtown along the Meramec River. Interstate 44 runs right through town, making it a convenient stop between St. Louis and the Ozarks, while Highway 141 connects to other county suburbs. Most residents make short daily trips within the metro area, though I-44 attracts long-distance travelers heading to Oklahoma. The city's 1937 municipal pool remains the oldest operating public pool in St. Louis County.
