Urania is a small timber town in central Louisiana's LaSalle Parish with about 1,240 residents. Highway 165 runs north-south through town, connecting to Monroe (45 miles) and Alexandria (50 miles), while Highway 4 provides east-west access. The town sits amid pine forests and farmland in Louisiana's humid subtropical climate. Urania gets its distinctive name from the Greek muse of astronomy, chosen by a railroad official in the early 1900s.
