Uniontown is a small farming town of about 470 people in southeastern Kansas, sitting along US Highway 54 about 15 miles northwest of Fort Scott. The main route in is US 54, which connects to Fort Scott and continues northwest toward Iola. Most visitors are passing through on longer trips or heading to Fort Scott for business. The town was founded in 1865 and named by Union Army sympathizers during the Civil War.
