Ulen is a small farming town in western Minnesota's Clay County, sitting along Highway 9 about 30 miles from Fargo-Moorhead. The main route in is Highway 9, which connects east to Detroit Lakes and west toward North Dakota. The town's historic grain elevator still operates today, towering over the downtown area as a reminder of Ulen's agricultural roots dating back to 1882.
