Truth or Consequences sits along I-25 in south-central New Mexico, about 150 miles south of Albuquerque in the Rio Grande Valley. The high desert city serves as a gateway to Elephant Butte Lake and the Gila Wilderness, with US 380 connecting east to Roswell and State Route 51 heading west. Most visitors arrive via I-25 for weekend hot springs getaways or lake recreation. The city famously changed its name from Hot Springs in 1950 to win a radio show contest.
