Townsend is a small Delaware city of about 2,800 people located 15 miles south of Wilmington along the Delaware River. US Route 13 provides the main north-south access, while Route 299 connects west to I-95 and the Philadelphia area. The Delaware Memorial Bridge nearby links to New Jersey. The city is notably home to Delaware's largest correctional facility.
