Timber Lake is a small ranching town in north-central South Dakota, about 90 miles northwest of Pierre. US Highway 12 runs east-west through town, connecting to Aberdeen and Faith, while State Highway 20 heads north to Mobridge on the Missouri River. The area experiences typical Great Plains weather with hot summers and cold winters. The town's water tower is painted to look like a massive timber log, complete with realistic bark texture.
