Thurmont sits in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, about an hour from both Baltimore and D.C. via I-270 to US Route 15. The town serves as a gateway to Catoctin Mountain Park and the presidential retreat at Camp David. US-15 is the main north-south route, connecting to Frederick and continuing to Pennsylvania, while Route 77 runs east-west to Hagerstown. The restored Catoctin Furnace once supplied Revolutionary War cannonballs.
