Thunderbird Bay is a small central Texas community of about 700 people in Brown County, reached primarily via US Highway 377 from Brownwood 15 miles southeast. Longer trips connect through Interstate 20, about 30 miles south. The area features rolling ranch country typical of central Texas, with hot summers and mild winters. The town gets its name from a bay formation where early settlers spotted large birds resembling the mythical thunderbird.
