Throckmorton is a small Texas county seat about 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth, accessible via US Highway 283 and State Highway 79. The town of 649 people serves surrounding ranch country in the rolling prairie of north-central Texas. Most visitors drive in from Fort Worth (2.5 hours via US 380 and Highway 79) or Wichita Falls (1 hour via US 287 and 283). The 1890 courthouse features red sandstone quarried right in the area.
