Thorndale is a small farming town in eastern Milam County, about 40 miles northeast of Austin via US Highway 79. The community of 1,100 sits in rolling cotton country where spring storms sweep across open prairie. Most visitors arrive on US 79 from Austin or connect via State Highway 95. The town hosts an annual Cotton Festival celebrating the crop that built the community when the railroad arrived in the early 1900s.
