Thomaston is a small Alabama town of about 300 people in Marengo County, reached mainly via State Route 69 from Tuscaloosa (45 miles north) or Demopolis to the south. The community sits in rolling farmland and pine country typical of west-central Alabama. Its most notable feature is its location along the historic Tombigbee River trading route, where an old ferry crossing once linked travelers between eastern and western Marengo County.
