The Plains is a tiny Virginia community of 164 people in Fauquier County, about 50 miles west of D.C. via I-66 Exit 40. It's classic Piedmont horse country with rolling hills and estates. Route 245 north from I-66 is the main access, with Route 17 providing an alternate route through Warrenton. The Great Meadow hosts the famous Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races each May.
