Thayer is a tiny farming town in south-central Iowa, accessible via Highway 2 which runs east-west through Union County. It's about an hour south of Des Moines via I-35 and Highway 2, or reachable from the east through Osceola. The massive grain elevator dominates the skyline and serves as a landmark across the flat prairie landscape.
