Tehachapi is a mountain town at 4,000 feet where Highway 58 crosses between Bakersfield and Mojave. It's a natural stop for travelers heading between the Central Valley and Los Angeles, about two hours from LA via Highway 14. The area has four seasons and serves as a gateway between the Sierra Nevada and Mojave Desert. The famous Tehachapi Loop railroad spiral lets trains cross over themselves to climb the mountains.
