Tappen is a farming town of 295 people in central North Dakota, about 45 minutes southeast of Bismarck on US Highway 83. The main route from Bismarck goes straight south through Sterling, while visitors from Jamestown take US 281 north then connect west on county roads. The town sits in typical prairie country with an original wooden grain elevator that's visible for miles down the highway.
