Taopi is a tiny farming town of 51 people in southeastern Minnesota's Mower County, about 15 miles northeast of Austin via County Road 4 off Highway 218. Most visitors arrive from Austin or Rochester, driving through classic Midwest farmland of corn and soybeans. The town's name comes from a Dakota word meaning "wounded," and it still operates its own post office despite its small size.
