Tangipahoa is a small Louisiana town of about 500 people located 65 miles north of New Orleans on Interstate 55. Take Exit 36 to Highway 51, which runs right through the center of town. The area sits in pine forest country with a subtropical climate. Most visitors arrive via I-55 from New Orleans or Jackson, Mississippi, while locals use Highway 51 for daily trips to nearby Hammond. The town's name comes from a Choctaw phrase meaning "corncob people."
