Taneytown is a small Maryland city about 30 miles northwest of Baltimore, accessible via Route 140 west through Westminster or I-270 to Route 26 through Mount Airy. Routes 194 and 140 form the main traffic corridors through this farming community of 8,000 people. The city is known as the boyhood home of Francis Scott Key, who wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner."
