Tama is a small Iowa city on US Highway 30, the old Lincoln Highway, about 60 miles northwest of Iowa City. The town sits along the Iowa River in farming country, with Highway 21 providing north-south access. Most visitors come via US 30 from Cedar Rapids or Marshalltown. The nearby Meskwaki Settlement hosts Iowa's largest annual powwow.
