Tallapoosa is a tiny rural community in Missouri's Bootheel, near the Arkansas border in New Madrid County. Drive south on I-55 from Cape Girardeau about 45 miles, then take local roads west through flat delta farmland. The area sits in classic Mississippi River bottomland, with cotton and soybean fields stretching endlessly under big skies. Its post office closed in 1995.
