Syracuse is a small farming town of 1,700 people in far western Kansas, about 20 miles from Colorado. US Highway 50 runs right through town, making it a natural stop for travelers between Garden City (45 miles east) and Colorado. The town sits on the high plains at 3,400 feet elevation. The Hamilton County Museum occupies a striking 1907 courthouse that looks like a medieval castle dropped onto the prairie.
