Sylvan Lake is a small Oakland County city of 1,700 people built around its namesake all-sports lake, about 25 miles northwest of Detroit. I-696 provides the main highway access, with M-5 and local roads like Orchard Lake Road connecting to surrounding suburbs. The city uniquely maintains one of Michigan's few all-sports lakes entirely within municipal boundaries, allowing water skiing, fishing, and boating on the same water.
