Sweeny is a small Texas city of 3,600 people along Highway 36, about an hour southwest of Houston. The Phillips 66 refinery dominates both the economy and landscape here. Most visitors arrive via Highway 36 from Houston or connect through Highway 35 from Bay City and the coast. The massive refinery complex, visible for miles across the flat coastal prairie, processes millions of barrels of crude oil annually.
