Surfside Beach is a small Gulf Coast town about an hour south of Houston via Highway 288 to Highway 332. This barrier island community of under 700 people draws weekend visitors from the Houston area to its uncrowded beaches. The town sits between the Gulf and the Intracoastal Waterway, with flat coastal terrain and year-round mild weather. You can still drive directly onto the beach and park on the sand for free.
