Superior is a small desert town about 60 miles east of Phoenix on US Highway 60, nestled in the foothills with a mining heritage. The main route from Phoenix goes through Queen Creek and Gold Canyon, while visitors from Tucson typically take SR-77 north through Oracle. The town sits at the base of dramatic mountain terrain and serves as a gateway to Tonto National Forest. The massive 1924 railroad tunnel carved through solid rock still dominates the eastern entrance along US-60.
