Sumner sits in Pierce County's Puyallup River valley, about 35 miles south of Seattle. Highway 410 runs right through town, connecting to Tacoma in 15 minutes and serving as the main route to Mount Rainier National Park. Most commuters head west to Tacoma or north via Highway 167 toward Seattle metro areas. The city calls itself the "Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World" and celebrates with an annual festival each June.
