Summit is a small farming town of about 360 people in northeastern South Dakota, 15 miles from the Minnesota border. Highway 10 runs right through town, connecting east to Wheaton, Minnesota and west toward Aberdeen. Most visitors arrive via Interstate 29, then take local roads west about 25 miles to reach Summit. The town's grain elevator towers over the surrounding cornfields, serving as both a navigation landmark and symbol of the area's agricultural roots.
