Sullivan is the county seat of Sullivan County in southwestern Indiana, sitting along the Wabash River valley about 25 miles south of Terre Haute. US Highway 41 runs north-south through town as the main route, connecting to Interstate 70 via Terre Haute for trips to Indianapolis or St. Louis. State roads 54 and 48 provide east-west access. The centerpiece is the 1896 Sullivan County Courthouse with its distinctive red brick facade and prominent clock tower overlooking the historic downtown square.
