Stickney is a farming town in south-central South Dakota, about 60 miles northwest of Sioux Falls via I-90 and Highway 34. The community sits in Aurora County along the old Milwaukee Road railroad corridor. Most visitors arrive from I-90 at Plankinton, then take Highway 14 north to Highway 34 west. The town was named after railroad executive Alpheus Beede Stickney.
