Star is a rapidly growing suburb about 20 miles northwest of Boise, reached via Highway 16 from I-84 Exit 44 or State Street through Eagle. Once farmland, it's now filled with new subdivisions and shopping centers serving commuters heading to Boise or recreational areas near McCall. The high desert climate brings hot, dry summers and mild winters with light snow. The city takes its name from a wooden star that marked an 1860s trading post, helping travelers navigate the sagebrush valley.
