St. John is a planned community in northwestern Indiana, about 35 miles from Chicago via US Route 41. Interstate 65 runs along the city's eastern edge, providing direct routes to Gary, Indianapolis, and Louisville. The city developed around major crossroads and serves as a suburban hub for Chicago commuters. St. John is home to the Shrine of Christ's Passion, featuring 40 life-sized bronze sculptures along a half-mile walking trail.
