St. Charles is a tiny community of 83 people in Virginia's southwestern tip, near the Kentucky border. Reach it via US Route 58, the main east-west highway through southern Virginia, or State Route 68 for north-south access. The town sits in Appalachian foothills typical of old coal country. St. Charles still has one of the region's few surviving company stores from its mining days.
