Springfield is a small county seat along the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota, home to about 2,000 people. Highway 81 connects it to Yankton 25 miles south and Sioux Falls 90 miles north, while Highway 52 runs east-west through town. Most visitors come via Yankton or from I-29 about 30 miles east. The town's centerpiece is its 1906 Romanesque Revival courthouse with a prominent clock tower made of red sandstone.
