Spring Valley lies in north-central Illinois along the Illinois River valley, about 100 miles southwest of Chicago. Take I-80 west to Route 351 north for direct access from most directions. The town sits in rolling river valley terrain and was once Illinois' coal mining center. The Spring Valley Coal Mine Museum preserves the area's mining heritage in an authentic 1920s mine building with underground exhibits.
