Spencer is a tiny farming town of about 100 people in southeastern South Dakota's McCook County. Highway 14 runs right through town, connecting east to Minnesota and west to Huron. Most folks drive north 25 miles to reach Interstate 90 for longer trips to Sioux Falls or beyond. The massive concrete grain elevator towers over the prairie, serving as a landmark you can spot from miles away across the flat farmland.
