Spencer, a small railroad town in North Carolina's Piedmont, sits along the Yadkin River about 45 miles north of Charlotte. Interstate 85 provides main access, with US 29 and NC 152 connecting to nearby Salisbury. The town developed around Southern Railway's major repair shops in the early 1900s. Today, the North Carolina Transportation Museum operates from the original locomotive facility, featuring historic train rides and one of the Southeast's largest railroad collections.
