Speedway is an independent city completely surrounded by Indianapolis, home to about 14,000 residents in Marion County. You can reach it easily via Interstate 465 with exits at 16th Street and Georgetown Road, or through US-36 and State Road 67. The Indianapolis International Airport is about 15 miles southwest. The town exists almost entirely because of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosts the Indy 500 every Memorial Day and is the world's largest spectator sporting venue.
