South Gate is a working-class city in central LA County, positioned between downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach. Interstate 710 runs along its eastern edge, connecting Long Beach to Pasadena, while Route 42 cuts through the city center. Most local traffic uses Atlantic and Long Beach boulevards for daily commutes to nearby industrial areas. The city sits about 15 miles from LAX and features the historic 1940 Municipal Auditorium, which appeared in the movie "La Bamba."
